These directives restrict the use of six hazardous materials in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment:
- Lead (Pb)
- Mercury (Hg)
- Cadmium (Cd)
- Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+)
- Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)
- Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE)
PBB and PBDE are flame retardants used in several plastics. Hexavalent chromium is used in chrome plating, chromate coatings and primers, and in chromic acid.
The industry has developed non-hexavalent / trivalent less toxic alternatives in order to comply with the RoHS legislation. DIXIE offers a variety of Non-Hexavalent Chromates/Passivates.
